Ok Go - Million Ways

It turned into a pleasant day.
...
After picking up some foam board and a new utility cutter (for cutting said foam board) I decided to stop by the 29th Street Mall.
There was an art festival being held at the mall over the weekend.
There were not all that many people when I was there today.
...
The North end of the festival was where the art stuff was.
I would say the thing I most enjoyed were huge sort of 2d planar like animal sculptures located near the end of the festival. They were pretty large but built in such a way that their heads moved back and fourth by weights. They were neat.
...
Um...so the photography...
Well...here's the thing...
Scott and I have talked about the photography you generally find at these little art things. They are most always of A) Landscapes B) Macro shots of flowers C) Italy (in some capacity)
Don't get me wrong. I like idea of all of the above listed photos...but I am just not into the pictures themselves. For some reason composition is sacrificed for large scale prints. Most of these photographers shoot 4x5 or 8x10 to make gigantic enlargements...and I am sort of like...meh...whatever.
Regardless of what they are selling...I feel like if there is more than 5 of any print they are trying to sell...this automatically becomes 'decoration art'. I am not into mass produced crap like that. And that is why I only ever make 1 of any print. Their art then becomes a commodity that is bought and sold, traded and forgotten. It is also disappointing to see the exact same photographs for years at booths from the photographer.
While I was there I saw a booth for Mike David. I knew of this guy because he has a little stand in Flatirons mall, and I passed it frequently when I worked at the mall. I always just walked passed and looked at what was out on the walls of the booth and was only moderately impressed. He has nice colors.
When I approached the stand today I saw the same 10 or so photographs that I had seen at the flatirons mall. To me, that says he doesn't really give a fuck. He has a stock number of images he has taken over a period of years, and banks on those to pay the bills (which works obviously...he is a pretty successful guy). It is just weird to me that someone wouldn't continuously practice their skills and try to grow as an artist. It is weird to me that a photographer might pick up a camera a few times a year.
And with these types of things, I do not consider what they do art. They are technical photographers, not artists.
...
BUT MARK!? What are you? Are you an artist...
...that is a tough question. People call me so (by people I mean my friends)...but I am not sure.
I haven't done anything that involves me being naked or anything that involves my own blood...I don't think you are an artist until that happens...
...right?
...
I take what I do seriously.
I do not take myself seriously
...
anyways
...
When and if Scott moves back from New York, for reasons of love (and maybe money), we might try to get a booth at one of those things. We (or just me...I don't know what Scott's deal would be) will have 1 of a kind prints and sell them for a lot of money. If not we just plan on getting drunk and talking shit to the people at other booths.
Is that really mean spirited?
whatever...
...
Back to today's photo.
...
I have been rubik's cubbing a lot lately.
It keeps my mind occupied.
...because sleeping for long periods of time is too depressing...and too easy a thing to do right now.
It is an unhealthy habit to numb your life with A)Sleep B)Alcohol C)TV.
Although lately I am guilty of meddling in all 3 on occasion. It is an easy way to forget about life.
(I can't do that to myself.)
sooooo...instead I numb myself with Rubik's Cubes.
...

self-portraiture
...
*note I am not naked and my blood is not readily seen in this photo
...
P.S. Megan and Trevor...I will shoot your engagement photos if you like.
...if you want engagement photos...but no wedding pictures. eff that shit.

soooo i saw those animals on 29th yesterday and thought they were neat also, but i also couldn't figure out the following: who buys these? where do they put them? do they really sell enough of them to keep producing them? there were a ton of questions going through my head concerning these animals.
i think you and scott would make a good team and have a nice booth that would make you some money. i also think it would be funny if you were drunk.
I love that you take you art seriously, but not yourself. I think that makes people more credible, less asshole.
"A) Landscapes B) Macro shots of flowers C) Italy (in some capacity)"
Ah, why are observations about the truth so hilarious? This made me laugh.
Lindsey - I wondered about those same questions too. Haha, I thought...so...if I bought this here buffalo with cute moving head...where might I put this? Front yard? I would say that...well, yeah, they must sell enough to keep going / someone else supports them financially, so to keep out of trouble they craft these animals instead of cheating on their significant other or smoking meth.
-P.S. It actually reminded of you, and your ceranimals. I thought that was awesome.

Mike - What is funny is that sometimes I try to be an asshole.
...
...
Amber - my comment about the photography is either funny or sad. But I am glad you thought it was funny
...
P.S. I love my friends.
HAWT!!!
I saw an art exhibit in Sydney where this woman used her own hair, blood, and skin in her pieces. Now, that may be art, but it looked more like the inside of a shower drain.
It was freaky... and made me feel gross... but maybe art is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable?
what areeeeeee engagement photos...i dont get it
