Apparently I shocked some people by my conversation with my Photo 2 teacher.
And this interaction summarizes Art school/Art students/Art community in general:
Instructor: So...what might you people know about me? Anything?
(scattered half answers)
Me: I google searched you.
Kristen: Mark, you're such a creeper.
Instructor: And what did you find Mark?
Me: I saw your website.
Instructor: The new one or the old one?
Me: I would have no way of knowing which was the old and new one.
Instructor: ...and what did you think?
Me: What do you mean by that? Could you be more specific.
Instructor: What did you find there?
Me: Lots of black and white still lifes. Some self-portraits...things like that/
Instructor: ...and what did you think?
Me: Without an explanation of the works, I was only half interested in your work.
(a few shocked looks and gasps).
...
I mean seriously...is it that big a deal that I said that. I am not gonna kiss this guy's ass just because of who he is. If I don't like his work I don't like his work. I was just being honest. Apparently people thought it weird that I say I didn't like something... I respect him because of who he is and his position at this school...but that doesn't mean I have to automatically like his work...and that certainly doesn't mean I need to lie to him about it.
...silly art students.
